Abstract
We prove that every hyperbolic group whose boundary is homeomorphic to the two-sphere admits a proper cocompact isometric action on hyperbolic three-space with finite kernel. This resolves Cannon's conjecture positively.

Formalization
- Lean scope notes for family 246,
lean/docs/246.md(OpenAI math release Lean documentation, 2026-10-06; community mirror). The formalized statement is that a group with thin Cayley-graph triangles and boundary homeomorphic to $S^2$ admits a proper, cocompact isometric action on $\mathbb H^3$ with finite kernel. The notes link to the comparator statement. - OpenAI, CannonGeometricAction.lean (openai/math, comparator challenge file). This file contains the target statement
cannon, which defines the boundary through based geodesic rays and uses the full isometry group of upper half-space, including orientation-reversing isometries. The proof body in this file issorry.

Family 246: Cannon's conjecture
Every word-hyperbolic group with boundary homeomorphic to S2 admits a proper cocompact isometric action on hyperbolic three-space with finite kernel, proving Cannon's conjecture. Every torsion-free such group is therefore the fundamental group of a closed hyperbolic three-manifold.
This is the only paper in this family.
